One of our national clients, with a regional office located in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter with strong casualty experience in the construction and other industries.  The ideal individual will have at least five or more years of related casualty underwriting experience dealing with construction industry accounts that can include general contractors, electrical and plumbing contractors, land improvement and site preparation, street & road builders, bridge builders,etc.  A strong preference for someone with excellent marketing abilities is also desired.  This individual will work with brokers and independent agencies in IN and MI.  Experience in handling Workers Comp, GL, Commercial Auto, Construction Defect coverages is desired.  Strong experience in the Workers Comp arena will be important. The individual should also enjoy field marketing and occasional overnight travel that will probably not exceed 6 nights per quarter.
The qualified candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in the following areas:
  • Field Underwriting – Construction and/or Forest Products experience required; Oil & Gas experience is a plus
  • Underwrite New & Renewal Business – Determine pricing and understand commercial lines policy forms and coverages
  • Analyze & Manage Exposures – Develop action plans to manage risks and changes during a policy period
  • Agency Management  – Growth and development; prospecting; appointment; and maximization of opportunities and responsibilities
  • External Sales  – Cultivate new business while demonstrating retention of current customers through presentations to agencies and customers
A college degree is preferred, along with evidence of continuing development thru completion or enrollment in programs like CPCU , ARM, etc.  The client is seeking someone who has excellent interpersonal skills, is well organized, who also has good time management skills, is a team player and has strong analytical and underwriting skills.  The company, rated A+ by A.
