One of our national clients is seeking a Claims Manager for their Des Moines, IA branch office.  The Claims Manager will manage the claims operation in the Des Moines office and also be responsible for a small claims operation in another state.  Candidates for the position will have ten (10) or more years of experience in the claims management arena, be an effective leader, mentor and manager of the human resource, possess well developed interpersonal and communications skills, have an extensive background in commercial claims with a focus on casualty lines, possess strong coverage knowledge. Our clients business is casualty driven and the Des Moines office handles a lot of liability claims for the construction industry, including construction defect, as well as a significant number of Workers Comp claims.

With minimal supervision, the Claims Manager accurately and efficiently assesses claims including liability and coverage issues, manages claims litigation and evaluates damages issues.  The manager also ensures resolution of all assigned claims, including the more complex claims.  The Claims Manager assists in mentoring, development and supervision of a claims supervisor, 5 claims representatives and 2 technical assistants within the Des Moines office.     The manager monitors new claims, claims processing, and claims reserves as well as outside vendors.  The manager is also expected to maintain strong customer relations and effective working relations with co-workers and other company personnel along with external customers.   

The Claims Manager will have significant experience in the following claims technical functions:

  1. Reports, reviews reserves, manages outside vendors, including outside counsel, knowledge of laws and procedures regarding commercial lines insurance claims
  2. Oversee the claims investigation function, including witness statements, authorizations, retention of qualified experts and counsel 
  3. Conduct coverage reviews, including policy interpretation, agreements and coverage letter
